NIH Job: Medical Officer


Being a Medical Officer at NIAID in particular, but probably for NIH in general, means that as a physician what one does is oversee clinical studies and clinical trials that are going on to try and advance our understanding of different diseases and also how different interventions or diagnostics might work. The type of people who are good medical officers are people who are good medical scientists, good clinicians; the person should be very curious; they have to be very rigorous trying to lay out what the problem is and what are the sorts of issues that are likely to arise in the course of a clinical study.
