How to Find Your Purpose in Life (with Questionnaire)

Hi everyone! Aileen here. Today’s vlog will be an exercise on how
to find your purpose in life. I believe that everybody has a purpose. Each person is blessed with a unique set of talents, skills, personality, and life
experience for a reason, and they’re meant to use that to contribute
to the world in their own unique way. Your purpose is essentially your life’s
mission. Finding your purpose is not about finding your career, although that could be
a big part of it. One purpose can spawn multiple careers, meaning
there isn’t one thing that you’re supposed to do. There are various ways that you can fulfill
your purpose, for example: through hobbies or your relationships. Your purpose is bigger than your career. Your purpose is the backbone of your entire
life and what you live and stand for. Your purpose is why you exist on this world. Once you discover your own personal ‘Why’,
your life will become more meaningful and fulfilled because you understand your
reason for being and the reason behind everything that you
do. Now finding your purpose is a personal journey. You may not discover it immediately and it could take a lot of time, so I want
to say: be patient and be open-minded throughout this
process. Today I’ve compiled a set of questions that
may help you start your journey in finding your purpose. I highly encourage you to click the link in
the description to my blog post; I have the full set of questions
there so you can copy and paste it onto a Word document and answer the questions
at your own pace. Also I’ve included a bunch of sub-questions
that are very similar so feel free to answer just the ones that
speak to you. 1. What brings you joy? What are the things that you love to do and
what activities that make you happy? What’s something you found yourself doing
for hours on end and not get tired from? These are your passions. Your passions are things that you are drawn
to naturally and that you have an innate love for. Your passions are your compass, and you should
pay attention to them because they lead you to where you are meant
to go. 2. What makes you unique? What are the things that you are naturally
good at? What are some things that your friends and
family tell you that you are good at? What do most people admire about you? Realizing your natural talents and strengths is essential to finding your purpose. These are your tools. You’re given this set of talents and strengths
for a reason. You need to use them to contribute to the
world, help others, and do your thing. 3. What does your perfect life look like? What would you do with your life if you knew you could not fail? What would you do if money did not matter? With these questions, don’t limit yourself. Dare to give your boldest, biggest, and most honest answers because you need to
acknowledge what you truly want. Do not compromise and don’t settle. This is your vision. Your vision shows you who you want to be. 4. How can you give back to the world? Who do you want to help? How do you want to help them? Is there a legacy that you want to leave behind? True happiness and fulfillment comes from
giving back and helping others. Your purpose includes making a meaningful
contribution to the world. This is your impact. So now that you’ve answered the four big
questions and sub-questions, it’s time to look for patterns and see if
there’s a common thread between all of your answers. See if there’s something that connects your
passions, your talents, skills, strengths, with your vision of your life and the impact
that you want to make. Whatever connects to all those things is close
to what your purpose is. Finally it’s time to write your purpose
statement. Take the time for yourself, sit down, get a piece of paper or open up a Word document,
and at the top, write: “What is my true purpose in life?” Then just let it flow out of you, keep writing versions of your purpose statement. Try to come up with a set of words that you deeply feel connected to. The words don’t need to be pretty or poetic. What’s important is that the words are inspiring
to you, because this is your life, this is your purpose, and it should be something
that you want to uphold and live by every single day, and it should
be the reason, the ‘Why’, behind everything that you do. And your purpose statement isn’t written
in stone. Feel free to re-edit it and redefine your
purpose in the future as you feel is needed. I really hope this helped you guys with finding
your purpose and being more clear with the ‘Why’ behind
everything that you do. Again, I highly encourage you to open up that
blog post and go through each question, and have some time to yourself to talk to
yourself and be honest with who you are what you really want out
of life. Please feel free to share this video or the
blog post with anyone you think needs it. If you’re brave enough, I’d love to hear
your purpose statement that you came up with. I’d love to hear your feedback on this exercise. This is my first exercise that I’ve created, so let me know if you’d like to see more
of this. Anyway, I want to wish you good luck with finding your purpose and your path in
becoming the best you you can be so we can all be awesome people in this world
and lift each other up. Thank you so much, guys. Bye!

Your video helped a lot! Thank you! πŸ™‚

  7. One of the best explanations of passion I've found was actually from an article talking about why finding your passion is flawed, and that's because "a passion is a thing that makes you come alive, that you don't realize other people aren't interested in or even necessarily care about." Which is to say, if you're trying to find your passion, you've failed before you even started.

  8. I truly appreciate you putting this powerful video out to the world. I produce videos on similar topics, would love to for you to enjoy them as well πŸ™‚ Stay crazy, stay awesome!

  17. I love this! I remember it used to be almost physically painful for me when I didn't know my purpose. I wanted to know so badly. And, the joke is that it was always just in front of my nose. It was also so simple that I was blinded by it because I had over-complicated it in my mind!

  18. Hi @Lavendaire,

It seems I'm pretty late, but I only just discovered your channel. I think this might be one of my first ever public comments on YouTube (I'm a bit shy), but I really wanted to thank you for this video and post. It was exactly what I was searching for.

This year (2017) I've made the resolution to really take care of myself and take control of my life, so I'm trying to develop good habits, but I didn't define a more concrete high-level vision for what I want to do with my life.

I filled in the list of questions, and though I don't think there are any big revelations for myself, it felt good to write it down. After I was done, I read the rest of your post and I was amazed at how similar your purpose statement is to mine (Especially the first part). I also have a desire to express myself in many creative ways (writing, music, visual art…), and people are always saying you should choose. ("Don't be a Jack-of-all-Trades, master of none!") But I wouldn't mind being a kind of "homo universalis", and it just made me happy to see another example of this. πŸ™‚

Also the rest of your statement is beautiful. I believe you have found your purpose and are going for it: you are truly shining in your videos!

Looking forward to watching all of your work. πŸ˜‰ Lots of love! <3

  19. "Talk to yourslef and be honest with yourself" that is so true and such great advice. We need to do that and check in with ourselves from time to time. Checking out the excercise on your blog. so glad I came across this πŸ™‚

My impact? I'm confident there will be meteors that want my impact.

I would've never been able to come up with these… I recently started watching your videos and you helped me so much in my life. You have so much answers to my questions. 28. Thank you so much for your inspiration I absolutely LOVE your channel!! I found another ted talk that has helped me so much in finding meaning and purpose – I think you would enjoy his books too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4ZoJKF_VuA&t=92s
Simon Sinek – Start with Why. I think you do start with why and that is why you are so successful. But I think you would appreciate it. <3 from South Africa!!

  29. Im glad I found this video. This is something I have really been struggling with. As a mother of 4 whose children are growing fast and are almost all at school I found myself in the position of not knowing what to do with my life. I have been a stay at home mother and that was my purpose for a good decade. Now I need to move forward and find something that extends beyond the home, something personal for me. I was a college student when I had my first child so never really started a career, so have a blank slate in a way.
I answered your questions and found that baking and decorating cakes was my passion, it brings me joy and I find that I can lose myself for hours while decorating a cake. My friends and family compliment my skills also. I think I may start looking into gaining qualifications so that I can work in a bakery or cafe of some kind.

    Thank you for your help

  30. Loved your exercise. Please create some more exercises like this. Because this is really helping me to get closer. Thank you for sharing it. πŸ’•πŸ™

  31. I think these questions are really good!they somehow opened my eyes!I don't know whether I did it correctly or not but I found out that my purposes are these things:
Help people to have healthy mind and body …
With being a nurse or a doctor I can cure people's body and with music I can make them happy…
So I decided to continue practicing piano and also my English language and try to be a nurse and at the end apply to my favorite country and do all of them…
    What do you think?
    Did I do it right?

  32. I love this video and this content. I'm struggling a lot with finding my purpose in life and I feel like your exercise and questions will really help me out. Thank you so much for making these videos. They are so appreciated.
